More information about 'Eburon'
After a long career in the international wine industry in Australia, California, and Eastern Europe, a dream came true. Some time later, Paul Molleman and Marco Tiggelman founded their own wine estate, located in Belgium’s oldest city, Tongeren. The EBURON estate is situated in Tongeren, the oldest city in Belgium, which some 2,000 years ago was the only Roman administrative capital within the country’s borders. During Julius Caesar’s campaigns in this region in 54 BC, the local Eburones, led by their fearless leader Ambiorix, rose up against Caesar and destroyed his legion. Our vineyard proudly carries the name of these brave Eburones, and our logo depicts the currency they used – the triskelion stater coin.
The first vineyards were carefully selected based on location and soil composition, and planted with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Later, additional vineyards were established, and by 2025, the estate is expected to have around 3 hectares of vineyards.
The subsoil consists mainly of flint, a mix of clay, limestone, and silica, which gives the wines exceptional minerality. Top-quality wines are crafted here from grapes such as Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Auxerrois. Although Eburon Estate firmly believes that the quality of the wine is primarily determined by the quality of the grapes, only the finest equipment and facilities are used in the winery. The sole objective is to produce the best possible wine that its terroir allows.

Why you’ll definitely want Eburon in your collection:

The Haspengouw climate gives their wines a fresh acidity and elegant aromas, resulting in refined and well-balanced wines.

Vineyards in Belgium, including Eburon, embrace eco-friendly practices and limit chemical interventions.

Each wine expresses the character of Haspengouw’s limestone-rich soils and cool-temperate climate, resulting in a truly distinctive profile that stands apart from French or German wines.

The vineyards of Eburon
The climate
Haspengouw, home to Eburon Estate, enjoys a relatively mild climate. With average annual temperatures of 9–10°C, warm summers of 18–22°C (sometimes exceeding 25°C), and gentle winters ranging from 0–4°C, the region provides an extended growing season that supports optimal sugar development in the grapes.
Coupled with 1,700–1,900 hours of annual sunshine, this climate allows the grapes to ripen fully and develop rich, expressive aromas—key for producing exceptional wines in one of Belgium’s cooler wine regions.
The terroir
Belgium often has loam, clay, and sandy soils, sometimes with limestone layers. At Eburon Estate, the soils are well-drained, which is essential in a wet climate to prevent root rot.
Limestone-rich soils impart minerality to the wines, while loam and clay improve water retention and can support more full-bodied flavors.
Winemaking in Haspengouw
Haspengouw, in the southern part of Limburg, is often considered the most suitable region for viticulture in Belgium. This is thanks to a combination of climate, soil, and landscape.
Due to the cool-temperate climate, white grape varieties such as Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, and Chardonnay are especially popular. Pinot Noir is the main red variety and performs surprisingly well here, benefiting from the warm summers and long ripening period. All our grapes are hand-harvested and undergo a strict selection process; only the best grapes make it into the barrels. Our goal is to cultivate high-quality vines and produce exceptional wines while protecting the environment. From vine to glass, we are committed to sustainability. We have made careful choices in both vineyard management and winemaking practices to ensure environmentally responsible production, so you can feel good about the wines you choose.
